AMARA

Cyprus
As seen by Rosie Green

Survey the view from the swing seat on your terrace. Taste the gastronomic Japanese fare of world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa. Take a dip in the infinity-edge pool which melts into the Mediterranean horizon. This is the luxurious AMARA resort in Cyprus.

A contemporary beach resort, AMARA sets a high standard in design and service. Among its USPs is the 180° panoramic sea view from every room. Designed to make the guest experience personal to all through its doors, the amenities and facilities are as impressive for couples and singles as for families and groups of friends.

Modern in its design and style, glass and al fresco space sweep across the entire front of the resort. So wherever you stand there are outstanding sea views and oodles of natural light.

The three finest facilities for us are the food, family services and spa; all of which offer choice and a real sense of place to truly immerse you in Cyprus.

Named as one of Europe’s top 30 resorts in the Conde Nast Traveller’s Choice Awards, expect a five-star stay from start to finish.

Stay

The 207 rooms at the AMARA all have outstanding sea views, with accommodation in three categories: Rooms, Cabanas or Suites.

As standard expect at least 45m2 of space; state of the art electronic features; complimentary Wifi; 24-hour room service; a large en suite bathroom; and twice daily housekeeping.

For additional space the two-bedroom AMARA Suite has its own terrace with a private pool. Each of the three choices of Cabana has a pool, with one or two bedrooms, and some with large living areas to boot.

Splashing out? The Suites offer a super-luxurious Cypriot stay. Some are set over two floors with their own pool, others with a balcony and swing seat to watch the sunset.

Eat

Gastronomes look no further. AMARA is a foodie haven.

Each restaurant setting offers something a little different to its neighbours, and all with seating either indoor or out.

At the main restaurant there are plenty of tables outside for breakfast and lunch, with live cooking stations, a buffet and freshly ground coffee to start the day.

Matsuhisa Limassol is brought to the resort by its namesake Chef Nobu, with all the famous features his restaurants are renowned for: Asia and Latin America fusion, a Tepanyaki table and Whiskey Bar.  Expect distinctly NOBU dishes, like black cod with miso and salmon karashi su miso.

Take a trip to Italy with a table at Ristorante Locatelli from the Michelin-star chef Giorgio Locatelli. A true taste of his home country with a view of the Med.

Open-air fish and seafood restaurant Armyra by Papaioannou is set beside the sea. Or finally there’s The Dining Room with its Cypriot fare washed down with a local Maratheftiko wine.

Explore

On the south coast of Cyprus, just a stone’s throw from the royal ancient kingdom of Amathus, the resort is just 8km from the town centre and 60km from the island’s two International Airports of Larnaca and Paphos.

It will take you about 4 hours and 45 minutes from the UK to get to Cyprus on one of the many direct flights offered weekly by easyJet, British Airways, Ryanair and Jet2 among others.

Cyprus is a beautiful island and it’s worth hiring a car for a day or two to get out and about. Take a vineyard tour; walk the Aphrodite cultural route; cycle through Cypriot forests; or head below the waves for a diving experience.

Why here?

Dive in – the pool experience at AMARA is five-star. There’s an infinity pool, an indoor pool that’s heated in the winter months, a seawater adults-only infinity pool, and a shallow children’s pool.

Chill out – treatments at the AMARA Spa use Cosmedix and The Organic Pharmacy products, with the outdoor seawater pool (for adults only), the thermal experience area and the Aroma Sauna for post-therapy relaxation. Treatments for juniors and mums-to-be are also on the spa menu.

Fitness fans – there is a gym on site with fitness classes – including yoga and spinning – as well as a tennis court where coaching can be arranged.

Family-friendly – fully qualified childcare providers run the AMARA Kids Club for three to 12-year-olds, which is complimentary for guests of the resort. Alongside the indoor amusement area is an outdoor play area. Sessions for younger children can also be booked at the crèche at an additional charge.

Retail therapy – there are a selection of boutiques at the resort including clothing and jewellery, as well as a hairdressing salon.

Our take

Dreaming of a bit of peace? The AMARA offers innovative, soundproofed ‘Silent Rooms,’ with cutting-edge technology to ensure the ultimate quiet. Just the ticket for anyone who struggles with their sleep.

Our favourite spot at the AMARA is the Rooftop Bar. Spend sunset here, cocktail in hand and caviar canapés at your fingertips whilst listening to the soundtrack of chilled tunes.
