Hotel Bellevue

Croatia
It’s hardly surprising this recently redesigned hotel has been tipped as one of ‘Europe’s Coolest’ by The Sunday Times.

With its monochrome prints on the walls, pots of white orchids atop glass tables and neutral tones warmed by wooden cladding and soft lighting; this is a hotel that makes a serious design statement.

But there’s substance as well as style, with its stellar location Hotel Bellevue’s USP. Just around the bay from Dubrovnik’s sixth century Old Town it’s a ten minute walk from the centre of the city. Perched on a cliff some 30 metres above Miramare Bay it’s one of a handful of hotels in the Croatian coastal town with exclusive beach access. Then there are the views of the Dalmatian Coast, showcased through floor-to-ceiling windows and best enjoyed from the two restaurants and sleek lounge bar.

Head to the spa and the views of blue can be seen while swimming in the indoor pool. Upstairs most of the suites now have the addition of a balcony to survey the Adriatic from a private viewing point too.

But wherever you choose to sit at the Hotel Bellevue to soak up this dreamy corner of Croatia, Travel Seen recommends you do so with a glass of Adriatic Luxury Hotels’ exclusive Dingač Reserve in your hand.

Hotel Bellevue, Classic Room partial sea view

Stay

With just 91 rooms in total, the hotel certainly exudes a boutique feel. As standard expect a view of the sea, contemporary furnishings, plenty of natural light and comforting textiles for a cosy retreat. Amenities include a bathrobe and slippers, air con for the summer months, exclusive toiletries and complimentary Wifi.

There are 14 rooms at the hotel which are unique, and upgrading from a Classic Room will see the addition of a balcony to your space. The larger rooms boast a private living area and the three Deluxe Suites have the best views, set as they are on the corner of the hotel with a glass balustrade balcony.

Hotel Bellevue, Vapor Restaurant

Eat

Regularly cited as one of Dubrovnik’s best restaurants, Vapor is the hotel’s signature, Michelin Guide restaurant that was also subject to the Bellevue’s recent facelift.

The terrace enjoys one of the best views in the city and buffet breakfast here is the only way to fuel up before a walking tour of the Old Town. Come evening time and you can gorge on lobster bisque followed by octopus, and finish with a chocolate soufflé and homemade pistachio ice cream.

Nevera Beach Restaurant is a quirky spot to dine. Take the elevator down to the beach and sit within a manmade cave, or al fresco, with a view of the sea and the Adriatic’s finest seafood on your plate. Spice Lounge has its unique feature too – a huge palm named Noah that divides the bar in two – and is the place to stop for sunset cocktails and morning Viennese coffee.

New at Hotel Bellevue The Wine Bar has more than 180 wines and champagnes to peruse.

Hotel Bellevue, Location

Explore

Hotel Bellevue is an ideal spot for a European city break, with plenty of direct flights from the UK, on a number of carriers, taking just 2 hours and 40 minutes. With the hotel just a 30 minute transfer from Dubrovnik Airport it’s more than doable for a weekend away.

Ten minutes on foot and you can be in the city centre. Take a walking tour of the Old Town – famously used as a set for Game of Thrones – and travel on the cable car to the top of Mount Srđ for a vantage point that can’t be beaten.

Concierge at the hotel can arrange tours and day trips to suit your interests. Travel Seen recommends a vineyard experience with tasting in Pelješac; a private tour of the Ston Oyster Farm at Mali Ston; and a yacht trip around the Elafiti Islands.

Why here?

Hotel Beach - accessed via the hotel's private panoramic lift, the secluded pebble beach below, where the Adriatic laps the shore at the bottom of the cliff, has loungers to soak up the Med rays - perfect for a refreshing dip after a day of sightseeing in the city.

Energy Clinic Spa- the indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi overlooking the bay, make the Hotel Bellevue an attractive sport year-round. There are relaxation zones, a steam room and Finnish Sauna, with a menu of treatments ranging from holistic massages to hairdressing.

Work out- the fitness studio boasts the latest cardio and strength equipment.

Shopping- there is a souvenir and gift shop on site.

Our take

You may have heard Croatia called the country of 1,000 islands (1,244 to be exact) but did you know that less than 50 of them are inhabited? And these dreamy Adriatic islands enjoy some 2,715 hours of sunshine a year.

Croatia is also home to the world’s smallest town... aptly named Hum!
