Rome Cavalieri, Italy

Rome Cavalieri

Italy
As seen by Sarah Boyce
City break perfection comes in the form of Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, which is close enough to Rome’s famous sights to make it ideal for exploring the Eternal City, yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle to create a space of calm and relaxation for every guest through its golden doors.

With epic panoramic views of Rome and the Vatican, the hotel is set within its own 15 acres of parkland – complete with jogging track – and is home to the city’s only three Michelin-star restaurant, La Perloga.

Adorning the walls is an art collection to rival a top gallery and within the grounds are three outdoor pools, including one for children. The award-winning spa also boasts an indoor swimming pool, alongside a state-of-the-art fitness centre. Hotel experiences not to be missed include the Sunday brunch and a visit to the expertly curated wine cellar.

What’s more, all rooms here come with a balcony. Just the spot for an al fresco espresso with a view of Rome as it wakes up for the day.

Rome Cavalieri, Planetarium Suite Bedroom

Stay

Accommodation here totals 370 rooms and is split into three categories: Guest Rooms, Suites and Executive Rooms. Within each of these are different sub-categories, offering a varied choice for guests.

All rooms have their own balcony – some with garden views, others looking out to the Rome skyline – their own separate living area, and Ferragamo products in the bathrooms.

Rooms can be interconnected for families, while couples celebrating a special occasion should opt for the Planetarium Suite which has its own roof terrace with a hot tub and a ceiling of twinkling ‘stars’.

Some rooms boast access to the exclusive Imperial Club with its 5-star refreshments and balcony with a view.

Rome Cavalieri, La Pergola Restaurant

Eat

With surely one of the best vantage points in Rome and three Michelin stars to its name, La Perloga restaurant is a draw for guests in its own right.

Overseen by Heinz Beck, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients are used to create world-class cuisine all accompanied by a sommelier selected wine list. Dine on lamb with offal sauce, scent of fennel flower heads and nettle cream, followed by ricotta cream with marzipan, soft pistachio and sorbet of candied oranges.

The more relaxed garden-side Uliveto serves buffet breakfasts and light lunches, think Italian antipasti and healthy salads, and then for afternoon tea and evening cocktails there’s Tiepolo Bar with its incredible collection of original artworks to muse over.

Rome Cavalieri, Location

Explore

The hotel is just over 11 miles from Rome Ciampino Airport but if you don’t want to book a private transfer then the airport is just a few stations on the Metro from the hotel’s free shuttle bus stop.

Being outside of the city, Rome Cavalieri puts on a free hourly shuttle bus so guests can easily access all the sights and attractions that must be enjoyed when in Rome. The Vatican is just 1.9miles away and it’s a 25 minute drive to the Coliseum.

Don’t miss the Sistine Chapel and a private tour of the Vatican’s gardens; take part in a Roman Gladiator School in the grounds of the hotel; and be sure to make time for shopping, gelato and al fresco coffee in the Eternal City.

Our take

  • While many city centre hotels will let themselves down on facilities for families, the fact Rome Cavalieri is on the outskirts means there is extra space for kids amenities, including their own pool, gardens to run around in and a children’s menu at Uliveto.
  • The Sunday Brunch at the hotel is hugely popular so make sure you book ahead. There are oysters, sushi and a children’s corner with kid-friendly dishes and lively entertainment.
  • Head to Tiepolo Bar for cocktails and live jazz piano from resident pianist Jaffa.

Seen it

“Travel Seen listened to exactly what we wanted - asked me lots of questions - and found the perfect venue.”

"With the Rome Cavalieri only being 7km from the city, this hotel “was the perfect haven from the hustle and bustle of downtown Rome” says Sarah.

“A relaxing swim, rejuvenating spa treatment or a glass of Prosecco in the beautiful Imperial Lounge with spectacular views over the city are a must.”
