Vila Vita Parc Resort, Algarve

Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa

Portugal
As seen by Chemmy Alcott
This multi-award-winning 5-star resort needs little introduction as its stellar reputation precedes it.

A true year-round destination thanks to its 300 days of sunshine, the Algarve is a superb spot for a short-haul holiday in the sun, with Vila Vita Parc ticking all the boxes for added luxury.

The resort itself is set in 22 hectares of parks and subtropical gardens along rocky coastline lapped by Atlantic waters. As a member of Leading Hotels of the World guests can expect a level of service and facilities synonymous with this exclusive group.

The Moorish style whitewashed buildings give a village feel, and indeed there’s everything you could need on site, with a sense of place and authentic Portuguese atmosphere at the resort’s heart.

There are also plenty of surprises for added wow, like the two Michelin starred restaurant and the outstanding children’s facilities.

Take all this into account and it’s not hard to see why Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa on the Algarve has such a high level of repeat guests.

Stay

One of the many reasons the resort is so popular is its wealth of accommodation options which transcend the needs of its guests.

In all there are 203 rooms, suites and apartments, as well as six luxury villas with private pools for those requiring additional space or travelling multi-generational style.

All feel very spacious, set in four different buildings amid the gardens and with views of the parkland or coastline. As standard there is complimentary Wifi and the decor is bright, using Portuguese details such as traditional tiles and locally-made ceramics.

Eat

A gastronomic experience of first-class quality is certainly on the menu at Vila Vita Parc, whether dining at the resort’s Michelin starred restaurant or its family-friendly Whale Restaurant & Pool Lounge. In fact, there are some ten restaurants and six bars to pick from.

Whale brings the coast in with blue hues and fresh seafood favourites alongside tasty dishes for younger tummies. With its views of the Atlantic, Ocean has held two Michelin stars since 2011, led by two-times winner of Portugal’s Chef of the Year, Hans Neuner.

The drinks offering is just as diverse, with a wine cellar holding more than 11,000 bottles and even traditional Bavarian beers at the Vila Vita Biergarten!

Explore

Less than three hours from the UK and with no time difference Portugal is an excellent choice for a short-haul European break. Then once you’ve landed at Faro International Airport Vila Vita Parc is just 35 minutes’ transfer by car.

There’s plenty on the resort’s doorstep to tempt guests off site for a day trip or two, like the abundance of Michelin star restaurants, numerous vineyards, some of Europe’s best golf courses and miles of interesting and variable coastline that’s home to sandy beaches, natural rock formations and Atlantic-fuelled surf.

Then of course there are the castles, churches, cities and parklands to explore on foot too.

Why here?

Family friendliness is a focus of Vila Vita Parc Portugal with the facilities for children making it one of the Algarve’s finest in this respect. There’s a crèche, children’s playground, teen club and Annabella’s Kids Parc, as well as a babysitting service.

Space is certainly not at a premium, with eight outdoor swimming pools, one indoor, and of course the beach, which has direct access from the resort and a complimentary shuttle for those who don’t want to walk.

Golfers enjoy a 9-hole pitch & putt, 18-hole putting green and 18-hole mini golf. There are also two floodlit tennis courts and a multi-sport court.

Kick back and relax at the award-winning Spa by Sisley Paris where 14 rooms offer the latest in tranquil treatments. The fitness studio and health club offer traditional gym activities and equipment, as well as more unusual ones such as aerial yoga and chakra meditation.

Have an amble around the 11 in-resort shops for souvenirs or those little things you might have forgotten.

Our take

Now at the resort is V-Club Disco, a super trendy night spot open until 4am. With a DJ and VIP tables guests can party the night away and enjoy one of the events hosted at the club.

The resort likes to think a little differently when it comes to the guest experience, indulging unique hobbies and interests beyond the golf and surfing Portugal is famous for. Recently on the schedule there has been treatment plans with a top acupuncturist, and equestrian experiences at a nearby ranch.

Seen it

Former British Ladies Champion skier Chemmy Alcott is better known for her supreme talent on the snow than for her sandcastle building skills. But when the mum-of-two asked Travel Seen for the perfect short-haul destination to take her two young boys to, there was a standout resort our team knew would tick all the boxes.

“It really did tick all the boxes for us. The kids loved the pools, the beach and there was lots for them to eat in the restaurants, the playground was fab and we had such a laugh at the mini-golf.”
