James Bond Movie Locations

 

As ever with the 007 franchise the movie has brought plenty of inspiring travel destinations with it, with No Time To Die seeing a return to where the novels were first penned by Ian Fleming; Jamaica. 

 

So here at Travel Seen we thought we’d take a look at three destinations where you can enjoy a thrilling holiday, with some James Bond set sight-seeing to boot. 

Even without its appeal as a James Bond holiday destination, Jamaica is a superb spot to enjoy an authentic Caribbean travel experience with plenty of sun, sea and sand. 

 

It was to this easygoing island that Ian Fleming retired after the war and set up home to write his spy series. He named the acres of land he bought here GoldenEye after a naval operation he undertook during World War 2, and as well as staying at the luxury hotel, you can also stay in the very place where Fleming would sit and write at GoldenEye, known now as The Fleming Villa. 

 

Much of No Time To Die was filmed on the island, with its producer Barbara Broccoli calling Jamaica “Bond’s spiritual home”. The Man with the Golden Gun, Live and Let Die and Dr No novels are all set on the island too. 

Super fans of 007 shouldn’t miss a visit to Dunns River Falls of Ursula Andress and Sean Connery fame, and for groups up to ten nothing beats the privacy and seclusion of booking out the Fleming Villa on Oracabessa Bay. 

The largest city in Turkey, Istanbul, has hosted James Bond movie sets spanning three different generations of the British spy series. 

 

The first came in 1963 with From Russia With Love, then The World Is Not Enough in 1999. Most recently Daniel Craig kicked off the action in Skyfall with epic scenes from Istanbul in 2012. 

 

In this city where east meets west a wander around the Grand Bazaar will certainly remind you of the first and latest movies to use Istanbul as their backdrop. 

 

An hour’s flight south of the city is Hillside Beach Club, a true escape from it all with glamour of Bond-worthy proportions. See the sun set on a sailing excursion, sip a martini in a choice of bars, or simply sink into your hammock as you listen to the waves lap the shore at one of the three beaches.  

Parts of mainland Greece and the island of Corfu were used in 1981’s For Your Eyes Only, with perhaps the most famous of these being the Agia Triada Monastery in Meteora which set the dramatic backdrop for the climax to the movie. 

 

A short boat ride from the mainland, the Elivi Skiathos has James Bond standard features everywhere you turn; think crisp contemporary spaces and high-end details. From diving in the Aegean to exploring the island on a safari, there are activities aplenty if you have a licence to thrill. 

 

James Bond movies aren’t just renowned for their slick stunts and quick quips. They also offer plenty of inspiration for travel, showcasing stunning landscapes, enthralling cities and unique sights off the tourist trail.
